One of the key features of the new bridge is an integrated ecoduct, designed to allow animals to safely cross the highway, marking a step forward in combining infrastructure development with environmental responsibility. This addition underscores the project's significance, not only for local traffic management but also for wildlife conservation in the region.
Sarens, the global leader and reference in crane rental services, heavy lifting, and engineered transport, was responsible for installing the new bridge beams. Over two days, the Sarens team lifted and installed 24 concrete beams, each weighing 41 tons, using state-of-the-art equipment and precise planning. The bridge’s updated design ensures increased safety and a more efficient transport route, with a higher clearance providing improved functionality for road users.
The decision to partner with Sarens was based on the company’s proven track record and engineering expertise. Sarens has a long history of managing large-scale infrastructure projects, and its commitment to quality and precision made it the ideal choice for this critical undertaking.
As part of the project, Sarens faced logistical challenges, including securing special permits to transport heavy cranes and trailers along the highway—a process typically restricted under Belgian regulations. Despite these obstacles, Sarens’ thorough approach to planning and risk management ensured the smooth execution of the project. On-site, the LTM 1450-8.1 mobile telescopic crane, with 104 tons of ballast, was mobilised for its high lifting capacity. The team efficiently coordinated the transport and installation of additional counterweights, demonstrating their expertise in minimising downtime while maintaining operational excellence.
Sarens’ extensive experience in Belgium includes a wide range of notable projects. From heavy lifting at the Citrosuco plant in Ghent to maintenance work at Cargill’s biodiesel production facilities, Sarens has established itself as a trusted partner in the region’s industrial and infrastructure development. The company has also contributed to social and cultural initiatives, including the assembly of stages for Tomorrowland 2023.
Beyond Belgium, Sarens has built a reputation as a global leader in bridge construction. Recent projects include the renovation of the century-old Colbert Bridge in Dieppe, France, and the installation of major bridges in Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Sweden. These projects highlight Sarens' ability to manage complex lifting and transport challenges across a variety of environments.
